| IRELAND, THE WORLD'S FRIENDLIEST DESTINATION |

|
Lonely Planet Bluelist 2008 (Published October 2007) - Ireland has topped the list of the World’s Friendliest Destinations in the new edition of Lonely Planet Bluelist 2008, the annual title which captures the best in travel for the coming year. The eagerly-awaited book, which is now in its third year and contains 100% new content, is a collection of the world’s hottest trends, destinations, journeys and experiences from around the world.
The Emerald Isle tops the list of Friendliest Destinations because of its “deliciously dark sense of humour” and “welcoming attitude towards strangers”. |

| NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC VOTED THE ARAN ISLANDS ONE OF THE WORLD’S TOP ISLAND DESTINATIONS |
| The Aran Islands have been named among the world's top unspoilt island destinations in a new survey carried out by National Geographic.
Islands in the survey were ranked on six different criteria, including the environmental and ecological quality, social and cultural integrity, the condition of their historic buildings and archaeological sites, their aesthetic appeal, the quality of their tourism management and their outlook for the future.
Panellists exchanged comments during the rating process which were kept anonymous to maintain survey neutrality. The tourism experts described the Aran Islands as an "unspoilt, beautiful, and dramatic destination for archaeology, bird-watching, and spectacular hill walking.” Many believe that the rugged beauty of the island is well maintained and sustainable and that the inhabitants maintain a strong sense of their cultural heritage and identity. Another judge added "walking through chilly, wind-blown pastures, running a hand along the mortarless walls, you can't help but feel a connection to the craftsmen who, centuries ago, so carefully fitted each stone. That this feeling, this authenticity, has survived the modern world is nothing short of miraculous."
