A Note For Your Diaries

NORTHER IRELAND EXPOSITION

Thursday October 2nd – Sunday October 5th, 2008
Mark your calendars! This year the Northern Ireland Business Tourism Exposition will take place on Friday October 3rd.There will be a full programme of events throughout including a gala dinner and familiarisations trips throughout Northern Ireland to showcase just why Northern Ireland was named a ‘Must See’ destination in 2007 by the Lonely Planet Bluelist.

Northern Ireland's beauty is intertwined with tragic history, rich culture and the renowned friendliness of its people. The wild craggy mountains, splendid lakes and sweeping coastline make it an ideal playground for walkers, cyclists, rock climbers and sailors.

But there are lots of things to keep those after a dose of culture enthralled, too. From boisterous oyster festivals to authentic horse fairs, and from ancient castles to elegant country houses, this spectacular part of Ireland is packed with things to do. If you have a head for heights cross the dramatically beautiful Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, or discover the mythical legend behind the basalt formations that make up the Giants Causeway. Or why not discover the story of St. Patrick in Country Down and trace his footsteps to the site where he is reputed to have been buried.

Invitations for the Northern Ireland Expo and further details will follow shortly.

REVISIT THE HOME OF YOUR ANCESTRORS AT THE SHELBOURNE HOTEL

The Shelbourne Hotel is Dublin's largest 5-star luxury hotel located in the city centre overlooking St. Stephen's Green, one of the largest city parks in Europe. Situated close to Dublin's cultural and historic buildings such as Trinity College and the Guinness Storehouse, the hotel offers the ideal touring location. Relax in one of its 265 rooms, indulge in the fresh Oysters at the Oyster Bar, or have traditional afternoon tea at the Lord Mayor's Lounge. The hotel is a gem for those clients interested in Irish history and heritage. The Irish Constitution was drafted here in 1922 and it has become a focal point for Dubliners since its 1865 opening. The hotel is currently offering guests with Irish ancestry a new genealogy service with the hotel's genealogy butler, Dublin native Helen Kelly. Helen is an experienced member of the Professional Association of Genealogists and during the consultation she will sift through information on the guest’s emigrant ancestor(s) and draws up a practical research plan for them. Kelly also guides hotel guests in planning visits to their particular Irish homeland to experience the culture and the landscape of their people. Those who can't wait to get started on the historical trail can also email their family details before they arrive to give the genealogist a head-start. Guests can book this service online once they have confirmed reservations at The Shelbourne.

UNIQUE VENUES AND STATELY CASTLES

Ballywalter Park, County Down, Northern Ireland

Ballywalter Park has been the home of the family for over 150 years and it is still very much a private house, whose fabric and contents continue to evolve, as they have, over time, according to the tastes and whims of the incumbent members of the Mulholland family.

In past years, the glittering and spacious main reception rooms played host to grand house parties and Royal visits, with the Duke & Duchess of York – later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth coming to stay in 1924 and the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester in 1935.

Now these rooms adapt easily to the needs of those seeking to organize a corporate dinner, a conference, a product launch or an incentive event. Indeed the possibilities are endless.

Why not let your clients feast upon the masses of strawberries grown on the grounds or try their hand at an official game shoot. Naturally, clients will have exclusive use of the Ballywalter Park Mansion House during their stay thus to further enhance the special nature of this magical place.

Every event is personally supervised by Lord Dunleath and Vibse Lunn, who would be delighted to offer a tour of Ballywalter Park and to discuss and advise on each client’s individual requirements.
