Spectacular Spelunking, Scuba, and So Much More

If you’re after something that gets your pulse racing faster than a thoroughbred racehorse, then the Emerald Isle is your number-one destination. With surprises around every corner, a backdrop of beautiful countryside and exhilarating ocean waves, and a host of thrilling activities, Ireland has it covered.

Escape the ordinary with some abseiling, rock climbing, hang-gliding, caving, archery or jet-skiing. In Ireland, spelunking is growing in popularity, thanks to excellent caving opportunities in places like the Burren in County Clare, the Mitchelstown Caves in County Cork, the Cuilcagh Mountain area along the Fermanagh/ Cavan border, and Crag Cave at Castleisland, County Kerry. Or you could experience the ultimate adventure sport in Ireland and see the landscape from a totally unique angle with a hang-gliding or paragliding lesson.

Climbing season in Ireland is generally from March to October. Take your pick among a varied collection of climbing areas around Ireland that enjoy a great reputation, including the Burren in County Clare, the Mourne Mountains in County Down, Glendalough in County Wicklow, and Fair Head in County Antrim.

Scuba diving in Ireland is a total thrill, with incredibly clear visibility in many places and a host of exciting spots to explore, from shipwrecks to craggy coastlines. Where to dive? Perhaps County Antrim in the north, or the Atlantic coast of Donegal, Mayo, Galway and Cork, or the southern and eastern reaches of Wexford, Waterford, Down and Dublin. Or maybe you fancy entering the Irish National Surfing Championships, or just want to tackle the crashing Atlantic waves off a pretty beach in Donegal. Hurtling down the rapids along the River Liffey in a canoe, or waterskiing along the stunning River Shannon—Ireland is one of the premier destinations in Europe for every kind of water sport imaginable.
