Painting and Drawing Courses

In an idyllic setting overlooking Lough Graney in County Clare, Julie Douglas has set up her range of courses in Killanena House. In 2002, Julie and her husband Mark bought Killanena House which was a derelict shell of a building. Over the course of a few years they fully restored the property and now it acts as a wonderful venue for hosting the numerous courses. Julie, a well established artist in her own right, offers a variety of courses in watercolour painting, drawing, life drawing, portraiture and botanical painting. Part-time, weekend, 4 day courses are available as well as classes for children and painting excursions in Europe. For more information call 353- 061 925975, email at artatthepark@eircom.net or log onto their website at www.artatthepark.net.

Impressionists

In Dublin’s National Gallery this summer (until August 10) there is a stunning show of Impressionist Interiors on display. The exhibit is being held in the Millenium Wing of the museum and includes works by Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas, Cassatt, Gaugin, Vuillard and Morisot. Many of us are familiar with the outdoor landscapes of Impressionists including lily ponds, urban parks and colourful sunsets but the Impressionist artists also ventured indoors and in this exhibit you’ll see 46 different works focused upon this theme. There are offices, bedrooms, cafes, theatres and drawing rooms and the exhibit has been organized by The National Gallery relying on loans from notable international institutions such as Musee d’Orsay, the Getty museum, the Met, the MOMA and the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. While general entry to the National Gallery is free, tickets for this exhibit cost €10 or €23 for a family (2 adults and three children). Tickets are best bought on line at www.ticketmaster.ie.
